When Play-To-Earn Is The New Normal

If you’ve seen the movie Ready Player One, then you know that the part they mention the Oasis world is exactly the embodiment of a real-life game called Decentraland.

Metaverse is a new kind of Internet. And no, not internet connection; I’m talking about the way we access the internet.

You see, currently the only way we perceive the internet is through any form of screen. Phone screen, laptop screen, tablet, watch — while all of these might differ in size, shape, and form, they are all essentially screen-based technology, separate from our humanity.

Accessible only through our thumbs, hand gestures, and voice commands.

This seriously impacts the speed of typing. I mean, think of how much time we can save if we weren’t limited to words? Like, at the point of thought, we immediately get results:

  1. Hungry? Auto deliver food at your location.
  2. Threatened? Auto connect to police hotline.
  3. Curious about whether to trust a certain person? Auto face search.
  4. Need money? Auto calculate options.
(for example: what to sell, arrange by least used things, how much fastest effective selling price, match to nearest buyer, pickup and deliver to buyer, calculate credit score approval rate for a loan, calculate possible loan amount, calculate interest rate if payable, where to find a job, create resume skillset based on personality data behavior, match to job providers — all of these done within 2 seconds of thinking)

Metaverse takes the screen to the whole new level. It creates a world for your brain.

The early stage of a metaverse involves a shared, 3D world, interlinked into a perceived virtual universe. Decentraland is an early example, and has always been the go-to for a metaverse world, where digital items could be purchased using crypto tokens, as well as interacting, and most of all, earning.

Facebook is now META.

Yes, that’s the official new name. Meta is now writing a new chapter in its books, currently with its development with its tech company, Oculus. By early 2023, they will be releasing their VR glasses called Cambria and AR glasses called Nazare. What’s the difference between VR and AR?

AR (Augmented Reality) only adds elements to your live camera view, while VR (Virtual Reality) is a 3D world, separate from our own. So, an example of AR is Pokemon Go, where you can still see the world around you, while VR is like Wildrift, or Decentraland, or more like Oasis (from the movie Ready Player One), a totally different world.

Mark Zuckerberg, Meta CEO, has also announced their upcoming releases for projects that will make its social metaverse a full experience. From what I’ve seen, it looks like the messaging system is as if the person is standing in front of you — a total removal of typing.

Meta has also launched the first social digital wallet called Novi, which would help a many immigrants in the US as it promises to be able to send money instantly with no fees, just like a message.

“Being shut out of the global financial system has real consequences for people’s lives, and it’s often the most underserved people who pay the highest price,”

Meta explained.

“Costs are high, and waits are long when people want to send money to their families internationally. The current system is failing them, and there is no digital financial architecture to support the innovation we need”

Defiland, which is a new game built on the Solana blockchain, is set to launch later this year with a test version currently running for investors last month.

Axie Infinity, a metaverse game built on Ethereum, has also made waves as 60% of its players come from a densely populated country called the Philippines, and is expected to grow rapidly in India and other neighboring nations by 2022.

As play-to-earn becomes a mainstream income source, metaverse entrepreneurs are growing at a pace never seen before, no not even during the Industrial Revolution.

This is a new era and I’m curious as to what it may bring. What I’m sure of is that I will be looking forward to it. Do you think that the Metaverse is a good thing? Let me know your thoughts down in the comments.
